When Addie started teething as a baby, I wanted to give an amber teething necklace a try. I have never used them for either of our sons and didn?t know much about them.
I was offered to review one and we gave it a try. I loved it, not only did it seem to really help with Addison?s misery, but it was also adorable. Where ever we went she would get compliments on her bling.
We never really took it off of her, and with her molars making an entrance into our life these past couple weeks, I figured we should continue using it. It had been so much of a life saver all these months, why not continue right?
Tuesday night after leaving the grocery store as a family, we were right around the corner from the house and I heard a crunching coming from the backseat.
?Boys? What is that noise??? automatically assuming someone got into a bag which contained snacks from the store.
?That isn?t us Mommy. It is coming from Addie. She is eating her necklace?
?PULL OVER!?
As my husband pulled over to the side of the road I jumped out into the backseat to do the typical finger sweep through her mouth and discovered pieces of the beads in her mouth. I freaked and took the necklace off while still sweeping through her mouth to make sure I didn?t miss any pieces.
Talk about sheer HORROR!
I couldn?t believe it!
She had never, ever, EVER tried to put her necklace in her mouth let alone eat it! You would think we don?t feed her?!
Needless to say, that night we retired the necklace, and my heart broke a little bit. Especially after last night when she woke up at 2:30am and stayed up for an hour crying in what seemed to be pain and frustration of her mouth.
The most helpless feeling as a parent is not being able to comfort your baby. After climbing in her bed with her several times, Addison decided the only way she would go back to sleep was on Daddy?s chest.
I foresee a long stretch of frustration without the help of her teething necklace until these molars aren?t being such assholes!
